Passionate Hirer Awards 2019 Winners

Our 2019 Passionate Hirer Awards were presented during the first part of the Executive Hire Party on 6 February. Other industry achievers were also highlighted.

For the 2019 Awards, a shortlist of six hirers were nominated from no fewer than 750 depots throughout the UK and Ireland, which had been visited personally by the Show National Visitor Campaign team in the months leading up to the exhibition.

The Finalists were divided into two categories, namely Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company and Outstanding Multi-Depot Hire Company. Following 'mystery shopper' visits and calls to their depots, each was scrutinised under a broad range of criteria including: presentation and functionality of premises; staff enthusiasm and competence; efficiency in handling orders and enquiries; quality of fleet products and delivery vehicles; and innovation in offering a wide range of equipment and exploring new technological opportunities.

The quality of each company’s printed promotional materials and website was also assessed, along with their use of social media and support of local community initiatives

The Winner in the Outstanding Single Depot Hire Company category was Rocket Rentals of Gloucestershire. Dating back to 2003, the company began by offering excavators and other plant, and has since added tool hire, powered access and even vehicle hire. In 2017 it relocated near to the village of Slimbridge to design a state-of-the-art, purpose-built hire facility including two wash bays and five dedicated service areas.

The Award judges commented, “The company’s team demonstrated an excellent standard of both customer service provision, and a well-maintained range of plant and equipment being delivered by its equally impressive fleet of vehicles. The facilities for staff and customers are furnished and maintained to a high standard.” They were also impressed by Rocket Rentals’ record-keeping and its adherence to quality management controls.

KDM Hire was the Winner in the Outstanding Multi-Depot Hire Company category.

The company has a depot in Belfast complementing its head office in Cookstown, which recently added a four-acre facility as a base for its dedicated accommodation and storage division, K-Cabin.

The judges commented, “KDM Hire displays a level of professionalism and commitment throughout its entire business rarely seen in the hire industry. The investment in not only equipment, but also the training of each employee is outstanding. It plays a role in its local community supporting sports teams and charitable causes.”

Having been successful in the Passionate Hirer Awards ten years ago, the business has kept moving forward, with the Awards judges adding that “this company is extremely pro-active in everything it does. With a new dedicated site for its K-Cabin welfare and site accommodation business, there are certainly exciting times ahead for the team at KDM Hire.”

Swansea-based Miles Hire was presented with a special Award for Outstanding Customer Service. The judges found Miles Hire staff to be consistently helpful and positive, offering advice and guidance clearly and courteously, while also suggesting other equipment for aspects of a job that the customer might not have thought about.

The judging panel felt that Miles Hire’s impressively high scores in the mystery shopping tests demonstrated a level of professionalism and passion that merited special recognition.
