Look out for a Road Show in a town near you!
Derived from the benchmark Executive Hire Show, our series of regional Road Shows enable hirers to get together with like-minded industry professionals to discuss current issues, share ideas and, generally, get a buzz from being part of our great industry.
These popular events allow people to network in an informal and positive atmosphere, and enable hirers to take advantage of Special Deals that are only available to Road Show visitors on the day.
Great in Glasgow
“I came here to finalise deals for some fleet additions, namely Altrad Belle to buy some
diesel compaction plates, and WernerCo to order more Boss AGR scaffold towers, as well as to discuss work at height training that we can offer our customers,” said Colin Inglis of Glasgow-based Eagle Plant Hire Ltd. “The Show has also been a great networking opportunity.”
Non-mechanical plant hirer Marwood Group’s East Kilbride depot was represented by, from left, Roddy Kerr, Jim Jamieson and Stuart Mitchell, who told EHN, “Attending the Show has enabled us to network with other hirers and to make re-hire contacts with companies who need a supplier of items like ground protection products and crowd barriers.”
The Show enables hirers from different companies to share industry experiences, and we caught up with, from left, GAP’s MD Iain Anderson and Procurement Manager Ken Stewart, talking with Brandon MD Tim Smith. “It’s a great event with a good mix of national and local hirers here,” Ken told EHN. “It’s on our doorstep and it’s important for hirers to support local and regional initiatives like this. The venue is great with a good atmosphere, and we appreciate the efforts suppliers make to put on some interesting displays.”
Carl Bartlett, left, and Michael Baird of Lord Hire Centres travelled over the border from their Newcastle head office to attend the Show, and told EHN, “It helps to maintain your profile in the industry and you learn what’s going on. We’ve met up with some established suppliers here, and made contacts with new ones.”
“The talk by Linda Betts from Spirit Network on achieving good hire rates was great,
highlighting the importance of training and motivating people,” said Hayley Shevill,
Commercial Director with Arvill Tool & Plant Hire of Airdrie. “I also had some good sales discussions with Hire Supply Co, SDMO and Genquip about their new products. The Show has been fantastic once again and it is great to have a dedicated exhibition for Scottish hirers.”
“We’re a specialist portable toilet hire business, but there is a lot relevant to us here, such as pressure washers and water bowsers,” said John Reilly of Envirosan, based in Carluke. “It’s a great opportunity to see what’s new and catch up with industry contacts.”
Having literally taken away a barrow-load of special deals from Altrad Belle at our previous two Scottish Shows, Jim (right) and Innes Messer of Tool & Plant Services of Edinburgh made it a hat-trick, buying two compaction plates and a generator. “We’ve really enjoyed the event once again,” said Jim, “and we also came away with details of some other interesting products, including pumps from Hire Supply Co, Syrinx
software from Point of Rental, and MHM’s lighting towers.”
Hirer's Capital Event

hirers in London and the South East of England. “We are big supporters of the Executive Hire Show, and attending the Cobham event is like a taster for the exhibition in February. It gave us an update on new developments planned for the 2018 Show. We took advantage of some good deals from Hire Supply Co on lights, mowers and other equipment,
and we had a close look at Bona’s floor sanders. All in all it was a great way of keeping in touch with our industry.”
Representing Hire Station’s various locations in greater London were, from left, Mick Pritchard, Core Tools Business MD Brian Sherlock, Simon
Clothier and Carla Hicks. “Personnel from our other regions have previously attended successful Executive Hire Road Shows in various locations throughout the country,” Brian told EHN. “So we wanted people from our London operations to benefit from the same networking opportunities.”
Brandon Hire fielded a team of no fewer than 12 people from eight of its locations throughout London and the South East of England. Regional Director Phil Tizzard said, “The Road Shows provide us with an opportunity to engage with a number of suppliers and to meet up with
other industry colleagues. It also enables some of our team who aren’t able to attend the main Executive Hire Show at Coventry in February to get involved.”
Steve Hull from Southern Plant & Tool Hire of Henley-on-Thames, said that the Cobham Road Show was “a great way of meeting up with likeminded industry professionals and sharing ideas, including suppliers
and people from other hire companies.”
“We’ve come here to get some new ideas and to see some of the latest equipment on the market,” said Vince Luiso, right, and Nick White from
Plant & Tool Hire in Watford. “We’ve gathered a lot of information on various products and initiatives that we can apply to the business, and we are looking forward to attending other Road Shows for region in the future.”
“These events are a great idea because they give you a real opportunity to see a selection of suppliers and have meaningful conversations with them,” said Tony Criddle, right, of Beaver Tool Hire (Chichester) Ltd, and Neil Johnson. “We find we are constantly busy throughout the day at our depots and it can be difficult to see sales reps if they call, so the regional Road Shows are ideal. We are also really looking forward to attending the main Executive Hire Show in February.”
Lance Foster from Southern Hoist Services in Southampton told EHN, “I was very interested in the Snorkel stand and we discussed the company’s range of compact push-along mini scissor lifts. These could be very useful for us to use ourselves on sites where we are installing equipment. The Road Show was also a great opportunity to network and to meet up with some old industry colleagues from the past.”
Knowledge is priceless
"Knowledge is priceless, and that's what you gain when you visit events like this, seeing new products as well as getting some great deals on the day," said Stuart Parker of Parker Tool Hire who was amongst the hirers attending our recent East Midlands Road Show. "I bought 15 Master heaters from HSC, a new fuel pump from Midland Power, and four Warrior barrows from Belle, having just read about them the previous day in the October issue of EHN. The venue was good, the welcome was warm, the food was great and the Road Show was very well organised."
"EHN and EHS do it again! What a great job the team did in bringing a wide and varied selection of suppliers together to showcase their latest products and give hirers the chance to take advantage of some great deals," said Dennis Gwynne, HVAC Technical Director of Andrews Sykes. "It's obvious that a lot of time, effort and cost go into organising such a professional event. It was also a great opportunity to catch up with industry colleagues locally, in my own back yard."
"It was great to touch base with existing suppliers and see some new ones," said Brandon's Mark Ball, pictured centre, with colleagues Shaun Wilson (left) and Dave Robinson. "Gary McWilliam and his team from Headline Sponsor, Hire Supply Co (HSC), gave a fascinating presentation on the company and its expanding product range, and I was very interested in their latest lighting equipment and an innovative battery-powered heater. If you go to an event like this, you are bound to see something new."
Within minutes of the Road Show opening, Dave Webster and Helen Power of CV Hire had bought virtually the entire selection of Belle equipment on display, including five compaction plates, a paddle mixer and a Warrior barrow. "We also bought some heaters and dust suppression water bottles from HSC, as well as a floor grinder and a dust vacuum from Trelawny. It's a great opportunity to make closer contacts with suppliers face-to-face, and those who get involved in industry events like this get the benefits."
Brian Sherlock, MD of Hire Station's Core Tools business, described the Road Show as: "A really informative evening, and it was great to catch up with a number of other hirers. The opportunity to see some innovative equipment and talk to potential new suppliers in detail was most useful. I saw some products I'd not seen before, and it's set the scene for the Executive Hire Show in February, at which I look forward to networking and appraising even more new launches."
"We bought some heaters and water bottles from HSC, and ordered a quantity of their newly introduced heavy duty pull cord," said Dave Atkin of Frank Key Hire. "We have a long-established trading relationship with Belle, and I enjoyed catching up with them, and it was good to touch base with Trelawny, as we bought two of their carpet tile lifters at the Executive Hire Show. I am really looking forward to the event at the Ricoh next February."
"We took advantage of special deals on some of the products we saw, including a gas heater and lights from HSC, and we made appointments with Trelawny and Duro for them to visit us and demonstrate some new items," said Peter Davis of Atom Tool Hire, pictured (left) with Chris Ryder. "The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and we're really glad we made the effort to attend."
Vote for Haydock
"It was the first Road Show I have attended and it was a real eye-opener because there was so much of interest," said Joe Hayes of Marchstream Tool Hire, one of the visitors to the North West Regional Road Show in Haydock. "I talked to Altrad Belle about buying a hydraulic power pack and breaker, and caught up with exhibitors like Hire Supply Co and Safety Lifting Group. The HAE's presentation on attracting apprentices into the industry was thought- provoking, and I'll definitely be attending the next Road Show in the region."
Simon and Beverley Luscombe, of Luscombe Plant and Tool Hire in Ulverston, travelled 80 miles from Cumbria to attend. "It was well worth it," Simon told EHN. "I had a good look at all the suppliers' stands, and I was particularly interested in the special offers from Harrington Generators and Safety Lifting Group. I found the open forum discussion about the Brexit issue fascinating, and I was quite surprised by the margin of the result of the secret ballot conducted during the evening."
A-Plant's Asif Latief said, "It was a great event and gave the opportunity to talk to a lot of independents in the North West and exchange views about our industry, as well as discussing what we can do to address issues like apprenticeships. A good variety of hire companies were represented and it showed how like-minded professionals can get together and share ideas."
"I found the HAE's presentation very interesting on how to encourage young people to consider a career in our industry," said Ray Woods of Southport Hire Centre. "The Brexit debate was also good, and it was great to hear the issues being talked from a hire industry perspective, rather than the general discussion in the media."
"It was another cracking event," said Jason Fielden of EPS Hire Centres in Mytholmroyd, who literally walked away with a great deal from Altrad Belle on a PCLX 320 compaction plate and a Warrior barrow. "We get a lot out of visiting the annual Executive Hire Show, and the Road Shows give an opportunity to catch up with new developments. At the Haydock event, I also discussed potential re-hire business with other hirers interested in some of our more specialised equipment."
"It was good to see the gathering attended by such a cross-section from the industry," said Supply UK's Jim Field. "From large national hirers to local independents, all participated in the lively discussions. We got a great deal on submersible pumps from HSC and we intend to take advantage of the Road Show offer from JCB on 0% finance on some new excavators. In short, we learned something, bought something, met with old friends - and ate a very reasonable curry."
