Visitors to the EHS are invited to the CPA Open Reach Meeting.

The CPA (Construction Plant-hire Association) will be exhibiting at the EHS for the 11th year running (8th & 9th) February, Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

The association will be promoting its ‘Stars of the Future’ award scheme, now in its fifth year, for trainees in the plant-hire industry held in conjunction with a number of UK colleges offering plant mechanic apprentice training.

The association will also be advising visitors to the show on its wide range of services offered to Hire Industry professionals.

The CPA will also be holding an ‘Open Meeting’ at the show on the morning of Wednesday 9th February (10.30am to 12.30pm) in the Jaguar Suite at the Ricoh Arena).  Discussion topics will include the impending launch of the Strategic Forum Plant Safety Group’s (SFPSG) work on Reducing Unintended Movement of Plant – Managing Exposure to Consequential Risks, where a presentation will be given on the aims, findings and content of the document following the recent public consultation exercise, along with guidance being produced on the Lifting Operations with Excavators by the SFPSG, being an update of the document produced in 2007.

Also on the agenda is guidance being developed on the dangers of pressurising hydraulic components for diagnostic purposes, being undertaken by the CPA, in conjunction with the British Fluid Power Association. This work has come about due to a recent fatality and aims to highlight the dangers and how to mitigate the effects of this activity.

Forward Tipping Dumper safety is another hot topic and the meeting will outline the actions being taken by industry through several task groups which include CPA, Highways England and the HSE. This is due to a recent spate serious injuries and fatalities which have occurred through overturning and collisions with pedestrians.

Last on the agenda is the new in-development Trailblazer apprenticeship for plant mechanics, titled Construction Equipment Maintenance Engineer, led by an industry-working group and being supported by the HAE, IPAF and MPQC, and finally an update on the future strategy and function of CITB.

Delegates will need to register as a visitor to the Executive Hire Show via the EHS website http://executivehireshow.co.uk/register.html .  The meeting is open to all and free to attend – delegates must also register for the open meeting via a dedicated page on the CPA website www.cpa.uk.net.
